As a gamer, I easily get caught in the hype of an upcoming game under my favorite genres. The first-ever game I bought from Amazon after discovering the wonders of the credit card was Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Special Edition. I thought back then that it was special because of the steel casing, the free prologue comic book and DLC codes included in it. When they announced Ultimate MvC3 months later, down went the specialness of the game I bought.
Then more pre-orders followed: Tekken Hybrid, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Soul Calibur V, Street Fighter x Tekken Special Edition, Hyperdimension Neptunia MkII and Victory, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Tekken Tag Tournament. I pre-ordered them because of their collector's value, if not for the free DLCs bundled with them.
When I'm starting to feel that I've spent too much, I'll see another item that will make me say, "I want that!" It's because of this impulsive buying that I inadvertently started collecting things, particularly stuff related to gaming, anime, wrestling and comics. While collecting is a good hobby, I admit that it's taxing, not to mention costly.
And so began my life as a collector; not a full-fledged collector, but a collector, regardless.
I would've said "Oh, and a gamer, too", but I've already established that fact about me.
Why did I write this entry in the first place?
It's because my impulsive buying got me. AGAIN. And this time, that impulsive buyer got me a Nintendo 3DS XL.
I was already contemplating getting myself a 3DS when I confirmed that the game Project X Zone will be translated to English; that game included most of the characters I've seen and played as in the games I played, plus it was the spritual successor to Namco x Capcom, a game I also played way back. I love the fact that the game is a crossover of three gaming companies, and to see them in a videogame, for me, is the ultimate fan service.
The urge got stronger when I found out that Super Smash Bros. 4 will be released in early 2014, and Rockman will be in it as well! It's been so long since I got to see that guy in a game; it sucks to see that Capcom doesn't show enough love for him.
Yeah, I'm such a Rockman fanboy. You can't blame me; he's my childhood videogame hero, aside from Mario.
But before I bought a 3DS XL, I first bought PXZ just this past Sunday. It was a limited-edition copy, and being the collector that I've become, I bought it despite not having the tool to play with it just yet. It was after I bought the game when the urge to buy the 3DS itself grew even bigger, and then finally, I succumbed to the urge yesterday.
I got myself a red 3DS to remind me that I once had a red GameBoy. The first time I turned it on and played the pre-installed game Super Mario 3D Land, I was like, "WHOA!"
This is definitely a different experience from when I play my PS3, but it also reminds me of when I used to play my old GameBoy. In some way, I feel that it's a combination of the old school and the new school. And it's been so long since I played something Nintendo made!
Though I realize that now that I have a PC, a PS3 and a 3DS XL, I'll need even more time in the world to cater to my gaming needs.
