Bandai Namco, through TEKKEN Project director Katsuhiro Harada, has just announced Tekken 7 for the PlayStation 4 at the Paris Games Week. Check out the full video of the announcement below. The trailer features the 20 years of the Mishima Saga that culminated in seven King of Iron Fist Tournaments. Tekken 7 will not only run on the Unreal Engine 4, but it will also support the PS4's upcoming new virtual reality technology, the PlayStation VR.
Harada-san and his team have been developing a VR game for the PS4, entitled Summer Lesson, since 2014. Read the official press release after the break. A feature introduced in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 returns in Tekken 7 as the character profile customization option is now available to players of the arcade fighter. Players using Banapassport cards can now replace their fighters' default pre-match profile pictures with jbstyle's special character artworks. In a future update, illustrations by JUNNY, Shunya Yamashita and Tomio Fujisawa will also be available for use. This has been the first and latest Tekken-related update so far since the Summer Fest campaign ended last August. There are yet no news regarding new characters entering the game, but Tekken Project director Katsuhiro Harada said there will be big changes to the game's console version, so the game is still far from complete and more characters might yet be revealed. Bandai Namco has launched a summer campaign for Tekken 7 in Japan, making summer-themed outfits and customizations available for the entire roster. The ladies are given two varieties of summer swimwear; one is called the "Sunshine Top" and the other is called "Celebrity Mini Bikini." The guys, on the other hand, are given shirtless customizations. New player icons, panels and title plates are also made available for players of the arcade game. The campaign began on July 29 and will end on August 31. Below are screenshots of some of the characters wearing the summer-themed costumes and customizations. Source: TEKKEN OFFICIAL
Still in celebration of Tekken's 20th anniversary, Tekken 7 collaborates with THE iDOLM@STER, another Namco Bandai game that's celebrating its 10th anniversary, giving rise to special iDOLM@STER costumes for the ladies in the current roster, with the exception of Leo. Watch the feature trailer below. It has just been announced just earlier today that Tekken 7's final boss Kazumi Mishima will be the next playable character to be made available in the arcade game's next version update. She adopts some moves from the Mishima-style karate and is also able to somewhat teleport/hover in the air like her father-in-law Jinpachi. She is assisted by her pet tiger and in some of her moves, like the literal Tiger Uppercut shown in 0:41 of her gameplay trailer below. Kazumi was the first in the Mishima family to make contract with the Devil Gene, thus explaining why Heihachi, Jinpachi and Lars didn't have it (the devil that possessed Jinpachi was a different entity); during childbirth, she passed the curse to her son Kazuya, from whom Jin Kazama inherited the unstable evil power. The date for Kazumi's playable debut is yet to be determined; she'll most likely debut this coming June. The seventh in G Corporation's trademark "JACK" series of robots makes his mark anew in Tekken 7.
Contrary to what was first believed, it looks like the newcomer Gigas isn't JACK's replacement after all. Unlike the previous JACKs, JACK-7 now sports a red mohawk and the grooves in his arms and face illuminate with a greenish glow. He seems to have traded his green camo pants with a brown one similar to his fifth incarnation in Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, and he looks to be the hardest-hitting he's ever been with his new wall grab and Rage Arts. Take a look at his gameplay video below. Two big Tekken-related news! Namco Bandai has just released Galaga: Tekken 20th Anniversary Edition for Android and iPhones, and the Manji ninja cyborg Yoshimitsu returns in Tekken 7. Originally posted as an April Fools joke, Namco Bandai released a gameplay teaser video for Galaga Tekken Edition featuring characters from Tekken 7 as player units as well as enemy units. The game plays the same as the original Galaga, but when a player unit gets captured and is rescued by the next unit, the two units will form a tag-team and unleash a bonus attack featuring cameo appearances form other Namco classics, eliminating all the remaining units before moving on to the next stage. Meanwhile, Yoshimitsu's new design in Tekken 7 seems to be inspired by a hybrid between a xenomorph and squid monster. It's worth noting that his new look in general also seems to give a nod to his classic Tekken 3 look with the skeletal motif. Check the two games' respective trailers below. Tekken 7 officially debuts a sixth new character with Gigas, the red colossus whose character model was leaked along with Jin Kazama, Devil Jin and Josie Rizal months ago, and he is now playable in Japan arcades starting today. Gigas' nationality is listed as "Data Deleted", and his fighting style is called "Destructive Impulse". He somewhat shares a similar physique and some moves with Craig Marduk, and true to his namesake, he seems to be the largest playable Tekken character, his head nearly touching the in-game life bar in his basic fighting stance. Check out his debut trailer below.
It is now confirmed that Jin Kazama and Devil Jin will return in Tekken 7, and a newcomer will debut alongside them: the then-unnamed girl who was revealed by an unceremonious data leak weeks ago.
And as speculated, she indeed hails from the Philippines, and her name is Josie Rizal.
Josie's fighting style, according to Tekken Project director Katsuhiro Harada, is a combination of kickboxing and Eskrima, a Filipino martial art. Her name is an homage to the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
Mad Catz community manager Mark "MarkMan" Julio was a key person in developing the character, as he suggested Josie's name to Harada-san and contributed his personal knowledge of the Filipino culture that helped shaped many of her traits. Mari Shimazaki, the character designer for Platinum Games' Bayonetta, came up with Josie's design. Shimazaki also did the design for the game's final boss--none other than the Mishima matriarch--Kazumi Mishima. Jin, whose new costume is a nod to his biker gear and hooded training getup in Tekken 3 and 4, respectively, has been previously revealed to be a secret sub-boss, but will become playable starting on March 31. Devil Jin, who retains his Tekken 5 look, is going to be released on April 7.
In an article on posted on Tekken-Official.jp dated April 16, Josie will be available for play on arcades starting April 21.

Just two days after the arcade launch of Tekken 7 in Asia, some overexcited fans managed to hack some new in-game character data and leaked the images online. Character models of Jin Kazama, Devil Jin and two unnamed characters, presumably new fighters yet to be introduced officially, have surfaced online on Tuesday. As of now, we don't know how Tekken Project director Katsuhiro Harada would handle this situation, especially that the hype for the game when it was first announced was practically ruined by a leak. I for one do not appreciate videogame leaks such as this because they ruin the game creators' promotional strategies.
But what the heck. Source: The Fighters Generation |
