Tekken Project director Katsuhiro Harada revealed last weekend at EVO 2014 that they are now working on the seventh canon installment in the Tekken fighting game franchise. While it seems obvious that it will be released for the next-gen consoles, Harada said that they're using the Unreal Engine 4 for the game, making it possible to be ported in current-gen consoles without any hitch.
Check out this "unreal" teaser trailer for Tekken 7 featuring the Mishima clan's matriarch, Kazumi!
The game is tentatively scheduled for release in 2015.
More about Kazumi
The teaser hints that she is the source of the Devil Gene that Kazuya inherited and in turn passed on to Jin, also practically explaining why the other Mishima clan members--Heihachi, Jinpachi and Lars—don't have it.
The story now brings to light another aspect of Kazuya's hatred towards Heihachi, as the former Mishima head not only threw him off a cliff when he was young (and again off a volcano after the events of Tekken 2), but also because he had also apparently killed the first woman in Kazuya's life: his mother.
This new plot development might also be essential to provide a fitting story to support the possible comeback of fan favorite Jun Kazama, as fans have clamored for her canonical return in the numbered series ever since she re-debuted in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
It is yet to be known whether or not she will be a playable character, but I believe we'll see more of Tekken 7 in the upcoming San Diego Comic Con.
End notes: Tekken is already on its way to make the seventh number, while Street Fighter is still fixated on the fourth iteration of its fourth. And also, I wonder what happened to Tekken x Street Fighter.
