Shulk is equipped with the legendary blade Monado, and has access to five power-ups in-game: jump, speed, shield, buster and smash. He is accompanied by allies Dunban and Riki in his Final Smash move.
Shulk's origin game, Xenoblade Chronicles, was developed by Monolith Soft and was originally entitled Monado: Beginning of the World. It was renamed Xenoblade in honor of its game director and the company's co-founder/president, Tetsuya Takahashi, who also directed all prior Xeno games, namely Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy. Monolith Soft is the fourth third-party company that will be represented in SSB4, following Sega (Sonic the Hedgehog), Capcom (Rockman/Megaman) and Bandai Namco Games (Pac-Man), which is also the company behind the development of the game.
The 3DS version of the game will be released in Japan on September 13, while America and Australia will get it on October 3 and 4, respectively. The WiiU version will come later on the fourth quarter of 2014.
