And so Cosplay Mania was done and over with, but the mania wasn't.
While the event had already wrapped up, I still had something left to do the next day. I made sure that I wouldn't be bothered by work on that Monday, so I filed a vacation leave for it. It's because that was the day—the schedule of our much-awaited photoshoot. That is also the reason, aside from CosMania, why Drefan, Kenneth and Sharlene, my cosplay friends from Singapore, visited the Philippines. They were thrilled by the idea of having a photoshoot in the country for the first time, and I just couldn't help but want to join them. I wasn't merely joining them, however; as a matter of fact, I organized the entire thing voluntarily. Our chosen venue was the baywalk of Roxas Boulevard, and our theme was Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I call it the Tekken Coastline Sunset Photoshoot. In my previous entry, I said that I wasn't satisfied with how I cosplayed Segata Sanshiro at Best of Anime, so I decided to redo him at Cosplay Mania.
I heard that the registration for the Cosplay Solo Showdown contest had been extended, so I thought of joining. I registered while not being sure whether I would qualify, given that I didn't hand-make my costume, but I qualified regardless. What was left for me to do was to prepare my live solo performance skit. I prepared a cut of the BGM that I would use for my skit as soon as I received news of my entry qualifying into the contest. I even planned on making a big Sega Saturn to help my skit, but thanks to glorious work, I didn't have the time nor the energy, so I settled with the real console I have, and I was able to make another, smaller prop with the little time I had left. And just like that, CosMania arrived. It's been more than a week since Cosplay Mania, and yet, I still have the hangover. I also have yet to talk about the Best of Anime event that happened weeks before that, but thanks to work piling up as soon as the weekday arrived, I didn't have time to write something at all. I arrive at home either too tired or too demotivated to start write something. I couldn't even stay that long to play some videogames anymore.
I figured that I had to wait for the weekend before I can collect my thoughts and reminisce about all those days, yet with all the stories that I want to tell, the weekend seems insufficient. I guess while I'm still awake (or at least trying to be), I should start documenting my stories about the mania that is cosplay. I thought of turning this into a three-part series: Part One will be about BoA, Part Two will be about CosMania, and Part Three will be about something personally special. And so, I start my story about those two days at BoA. |
