The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is forced to relinquish his title due to a severe injury, tearing his right ACL, MCL and menial meniscus during his match against the Demon Kane at last night's WWE live event in Dublin, Ireland. He is expected to be out of action for an estimated six to nine months.
The title match between former Shield brothers at Survivor Series is no more; instead, a tournament will be held to crown the new WWE World Heavyweight champion at the 29th iteration of the annual pay-per-view on November 22 in Atlanta, Georgia.
On March 29, Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania, turning the title match between Reigns and then-reigning champion Brock Lesnar into a triple-threat title match. He pinned Reigns after a Curb Stomp to start his WWE World Heavyweight title reign. He started adopting Triple H's Pedigree as his finishing move at WWE Payback.
He had successfully defended his title against Reigns, Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, John Cena, Kane and Sting. He lost to Lesnar by DQ via interference from the returning Undertaker at WWE Battleground, but he retained the title. His championship run lasted for 220 days.
Get well soon, Seth.
